I’m sure a few of you saw this post made yesterday by Julia (azumaneh), as a reply to a question by Rhae (heart-nakama).
I have messaged both Rhae and Julia asking for an explanation. Here is how Rhae replied:
Which in my opinion grants me more reason to make this post. This is not an apology - this is Rhae telling me not to take this, a disgusting and inappropriate joke making light of rape, so seriously. Evidently she doesn’t feel bad about what she’s done and feels no need to address her behaviour or how it might be affecting others.
Julia’s reply was much the same:
The words are sweeter but the reply is still focussed on how I have taken offense, not on how she is at fault or how her actions could hurt. Julia has deleted the original post (probably after receiving my message) and I know for a fact that it was still up on her blog several hours after the ask was published.
Both of these bloggers are popular graphics makers within the One Piece fandom on Tumblr so I feel hesitant in calling them out, but I think it’s important that they know how harmful and triggering a post like this can be to certain people. I also want you guys to know that this ask message has been sent, answered and largely unaddressed, so that you can decide whether or not to unfollow these users as I and others already have. With the One Piece Tumblr fandom taking pride in being a welcoming and positive community, I want to make sure that others feel safe, and that people who condone behaviour such as what Rhae and Julia have exhibited are at fault and are being potentially damaging.
PLEASE NOTE: The point of this post is not to call Rhae and Julia terrible people, or to encourage any hate mail being sent their way. If you want to message them, please do not be nasty.
